Do you know how long ferrets live?
So long as your ferret is not contract any major illness is, or have a major accident, you may expect him to live for a minimum of 7 years. There are some records of ferrets living so long as 14 years but the eldest I’ve had was 10 when she died. If you are considering buying a ferret for the 1st time keep in mind that there are benefits and downsides to purchasing a ferret at every age. It does not actually count how long a ferret lives if you are not prepared to look after it for its entire life.
Young ferrets ( kits ) are fantastic animals to own. If you have kids or other pets it’s a good idea to start with a particularly young ferret as they are less intimidating and better to play with. However , they do need consistent discipline if you want to house break them, and you must also teach them to play nice and avoid biting and scratching.
Adult ferrets that have been well handled and cared for are much easier to own than a young ferret. However , an adult ferret that has been treated badly will be very difficult and can be threatening. Purchasing an adult also means that it will already have been fixed and de-scented, which is another expense that you do not need to consider.
There are a couple of important points to remember if you would like to ensure that your ferret lives to a ripe old age. The first is making certain they get good nourishment and lots of clean water. Ferrets will need a high protein diet ideally with animal protein rather than vegetable protein. They also require frequent visits to a vet to guarantee they are in good shape and their shots are up to date. And the most significant point is to ensure they are part of a loving family and treated with kindness and love at all times.
