Omaha’s proximity to Offutt A.F.B. makes it a great location for military families to setting down and settle into civilian life. As personnel redeploy from their assignments all over the globe, they must make quite a few decisions on where to raise their families for the long term. The Omaha area should definitely be considered.
The people of Omaha do a nice job of blending city life with the casual country lifestyle. There’s a downhome feeling among the residents of Omaha, probably because of its roots in farming. The farms on the edge of town are not so far away that residents have forgotten their roots (or their manners).
With the countryside close at hand, one is never too distant from the joys of spending time in the great outdoors. It is a very short drive (in fact, a short walk, depending on where you choose to live) to the powerful Missouri River, where you’ll find three seasons (at least) worth of fun. Boating on the river is popular, especially for those who like to cast the line in for some smallmouth every now and then. But water sports are also a big hit on the river, and you’ll find water skiers out all summer long.
If you’re stationed at Offutt, you likely already know that Bellevue is the home of the base. But there are other tracts in town that are close to Offutt, and they are good choices for school districts as well as homes.
